NFL Week 8 Picks

It’s the Attack of the Unders!  We saw unders go 13-2 in week 6.  Then go 9 – 4 in week 7.  This was preceeded by many huge drops in the early point totals in both weeks.  If you were paying attention, see NFL Lines Week 7 Picks, Odds & Spreads, and played the line movement angle, you should have pocketed some change the past two weeks.

This week the early line movements on the over/under totals were pretty evenly split between movement towards under, towards over, and staying even.  Monitor the line movement throughout the week as they may not be tipping their hand as early this week or the Books have adjusted and got the totals better tuned.

The Algorithm is showing a huge overlay on the 49ers Bengals game.  The Algorithm is seeing the line at over 14 points while Vegas has it at 5.5.   Watch the injury news out of San Francisco closely this week as the Algorithm is normally not that far off the Vegas line so there is an influence it is not seeing.

UPDATE (Wed 10/25):  The 49ers announce Brock Purdy has entered concussion protocol following the Monday night game against the Vikings.

Update: (Sun 10/29):  Brock Purdy is expected to start and play against the Bengals.  This could create an interesting betting angle.  The Books will be hesistant to move the line past -6.5, as they could easily get middled(a bettor has SF -5.5, then catches Bengals +8.5, any SF win of 6,7, or 8 points would middle the book who would have to pay both ends instead of just one or the other).  But if the public starts banging the -5.5 line now that Purdy is playing, the books might be forced to offering more points on the Bengals.  This is a difficult handicapping game because you have a desperate Bengals team coming off a bye, playing an annoyed and slightly banged up SF team coming off two losses.  The Algorithm sees it as an easy SF win, but the line and the books are saying this is going to be much closer than the stats would indicate.
