Statistical Power Ratings

This page rates every team on its stats alone. Every team is ranked in every stat, and each rank becomes points — 1st is worth 100, 32nd is worth 0. Stats are grouped into football families (passing, rushing, pressure, turnovers and so on). Each family is averaged, so no part of the game counts more just because more is measured about it, and then the families are combined with set weights — passing and rushing count most. Where a stat has a per-play, per-attempt or per-drive version, that version is used rather than the raw total; volume counts like attempts are left out, and every stat counts once. Stats where a lower number is better — like points allowed — are ranked that way. Offense and defense are rated separately, and a team's overall Statistical Power Rating is the average of the two.

The table shows where each team's ranks fall: Top 3, 4–10, Middle 12 (11–22), 23–29 and Bottom 3. Click a team to see the stats behind its counts. This is a second, stats-only view, not the algorithm's Power Rating — the two are different numbers. It's early in the season: with only a few games played, one game can move these ratings a lot.
