NOTE: The week two pick sheet had the New England Seattle game backwards on the chart.  Seattle was a -4 favorite at home, not New England.  This would have changed the calculated spread, but the fairest thing to do was just stick with the New England pick that was public and settle it on the real line.  New England +4 covered in the 23 – 20 loss.

The Algorithm churned it’s way to another winning week finishing at 10 – 6.  Week 2 was a huge week for underdogs and away teams as the lines overcompensated for week 1 results. The Bucs/Saints straight up parlay paid 12 -1 so there were plenty of money making opportunities for those who stayed away from the favorites in week 2.

Pick of the Week – New Orleans +6 @ Dallas

Those who believed in the Saints after week 1 were rewarded when New Orleans went into Dallas as 6 point underdogs and laid a whipping on the Cowboys.  The Saints marched up and down the field against what appears to be a soft Dallas run defense.  This was a bet you could celebrate at halftime and then just enjoy shots of Jerry Jones fuming in his luxury box for the entire second half.

A small tip of the cap to The Algorithm, which after going into the 1000th of a point sniffed out the Raiders vs the Ravens by 3/1000th of a point.  I am going to attribute this to 99% luck and 1% absolute genius.

Punk of the Week – Carolina +6 vs LA Chargers

At least this is a punk you were warned to avoid.  Carolina looks really bad and they have to think about benching Young sooner rather than later.  I don’t see any progress and if anything there is regression.  I still think he is too small to be a starting NFL quarterback, but Drew Brees and Michael Vick weren’t much taller and they found ways to be productive at hall of fame levels.

The real problem with the Panthers is they don’t appear to have any strengths whatsoever.  Normally, even bad teams have a position group or two that are NFL caliber, but Carolina doesn’t seem to have a single unit that is even adequate.  Canales is in a really bad spot if he went in there and told Tepper he could fix what they had, as opposed to needing to blow the whole thing up.  If he said he could fix this mess,  he also is going to have a real credibility issue with an owner not known as the most patient of men.
