The Algorithm had it’s first losing week in 13 weeks last week going a mere 6 – 7 – 1.  That puts the season record at 42 – 33 – 3.

This week has only four home favorites out of 14 games.  Only Chicago, Green Bay, Philadelphia, & Baltimore are favored as home teams in week 6, every other game the away team is favored.

A couple games of note.  The Algorithm has New Orleans as 7 point favorites getting 2 points at home against Tampa Bay.  The Algorithm still rates the Saints highly despite their recent setbacks.  However it looks like Carr will be out. It will be interesting to see what happens to their power rankings should they lose a 4th straight game.

It appears as if the Patriots will start Drake Maye against Houston.  Which means this is the perfect time for the occassional ***Algorithm Warning***

Th Algorithm is forced to pick every game each week using stats alone.  If I could ask the Algorithm, How happy are you to be riding Drake Maye and perhaps Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener? 

My guess is it would be a stream of unprintable 0’s and 1’s.  You, a human with a brain in your head, are not forced to pick every game every week.  You can use variables outside of stats alone to find an edge and pick a winner.  If/when you see the Alogirthm making picks like this, don’t touch them unless you have other collaborating stats, trends or matchups to go on.  The Algorithm cannot see injuries, weather or other mitigating factors.  All its picks are made based on 2024 statistics.

With that said, for the second time this season the Algorithm had a game as a dead push down to the 100ths of a point. Cincinatti (101.371) @ NY Giants (101.372), meaning the G-men are favored by 1/1000th of a point. This will be the closest matchup in the history of the Algorithm.  Thus the Algorithm is going to take the +3.5 and roll with Danny Dimes(I cannot express how much I disliked writing that sentence…).

This happened in the Las Vegas @ Baltimore game in week 2.  The Raiders went into Baltimore as +9.5 point underdogs and handed the Ravens a 26 – 23 defeat, winning straight up.  In that game, the Algorithm correctly picked Las Vegas based on a spread difference of 3/1000th of a point.  Will its Spidey Senses be locked in again in Week 6?
