Sack % & QBP % vs Blitz / No Blitz
The chart below is sorted by Dropbacks vs the blitz. Why? Look at the top 3 names on the list: Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels. The three rookies who have started every game are the most blitzed quarterbacks in the league.
The interesting thing about this chart are the last three columns that break out the QB’s sack % into vs Blitz/No Blitz. This allows us to see which quarterback are avoiding sacks even against a blitz, and which are finding ays to get sacked when facing a normal rush.
There are too many insights to list them all but here are a few:
- Deshaun Watson was a sack machine. He took 20 sacks on 90 dropbacks against the blitz for an eye popping 22.2% sack % when facing a blitz.
- Wil Levis is also a sack machine, but he does his most dubious work when facing No Blitz. Levis has taken 29 sacks when not facing a blitz in only 197 dropbacks for a sterling 14.7 % sack% when not facing a blitz.
- How bad Jordan Love is vs Blitz: His passer rating vs Blitz is 74.2, and EPA/dropback is a horrendous -0.36.
- How good Jordan Love is vs No Blitz: His passer rating is 105.3 and EPA/dropback is 1st at +0.27.
- Green-Green-Green(above average against No Blitz, Blitz, Overall): Love, Allen, Love, Nix, Carr, Richardson, Rush
- Red-Red-Red(below average against No Blitz, Blitz, Overall): Williams, Daniels, Minshew, Hurts, Darnold
- When it comes to pressure, 2nd year QBs are really struggling. Here are the QBP% for No Blitz/Blitz for 2nd year QBs:
- Stroud(36%/52%)
- Richardson (37%/59%)
- Levis(43%/50%)
- The averages for the league are 30%/41%. Bryce Young is 26%/44%, so better than average against no blitz, and slightly below average against the blitz.
